The Aurora_Watch_2000 list is a list dedicated to observing, discussion, and reporting of the Aurora Australis (Southern Aurora).
Generally speaking the population concentration in the Northern Hemisphere in the vicinity of the Northern Auroral oval means that Northern US, Canadian, Alaskan residents generally stand a much better chance of seeing Auroral activity than Southern Hemisphere observers for a few years either side of the Solar maximum. However the next 2 years represent the best opportunity in almost a decade for Southern Hemisphere observers to witness displays of the Aurora Australis.
This list has been created to assist people in observing and recording observations of the Aurora Australis by providing information on viewing and photography techniques, observation reports, predictions of impending Auroral activity as well as general discussion on the subject.
The creator of this list is Craig Richardson, a Member of the Astronomical Society of South Australia and Co-ordinator of Aurora Watch 2000. Most of the members on this list thus far are members of the ASSA but any non-member is welcome to join this list.
