Hello,
I am a seasonal field biologist of seven years and thus caught in
the endless search for new opportunities. I have worked for several
government agencies, universities, NGOs, and consulting firms on over
twenty-five wildlife projects. My experience includes work with
bears, coyotes, lynx, moose, elk, deer, fox, wolves, sea turtles,
marine mammals, shorebirds, cougars, wolverines, fishers, and alpine
chamois in a variety of places (ME, AK, MT, NC, HI, WY, CA, TN, CO,
AL, MI, MN, WI, GA, Alberta, and Switzerland). I am striving to gain
a very broad and diverse background on which to draw upon through my
long term goals of wildlife conservation. I am currently seeking a
master's program and opportunities to work in the arctic.
EnviroJobs is a great resource, and I hope it will someday help me
move beyond collecting yellow snow and persisting on Ramen noodles.

Hello Envirojobs Members,

Due to increased traffic on the envirojobs website, I am forced to
move it off of Geocities. We are exceeding their monthly traffic
allotment and they are frequently shutting the site down.
Fortunately, The Ohio State University has offered to host the site
on their School of Natural Resources Web Server. The new link is:

http://www.ag.ohio-state.edu/~envjobs/

I am currently unable to maintain the site properly, and my web
skills are somewhat out-of-date, so I am offering free online credit
to persons willing to assist with the site. All you need to do is
pick a page that needs work, and that you think you can improve upon
and update the page. When you have updated the page, e-mail me the
necessary files and I will upload them.

You may give yourself a "low-key" credit on the page, as well as a
link to your website and/or resume (no large ads or pop-ups please as
these are forbidden on OSU servers). A small graphic perhaps that
indicates this page was contributes by you or your organization with
a link would be appropriate. You may also list our site on your
resume as experience. If you are interested or have any questions,
please contact me by replying to this message. Since this website
generates no revenue, I can only offer a volunteeer opportunity.

Thanks,

For Steve, and others who may not be aware,

Yahoogroups deliberately obfuscates your e-mail address. One can
only reply to the e-mail messages by clicking on the link through the
web. The yahoogroups server will forward the message to the correct
address. This is done ostensibly to protect your e-mail from roving
spammers. This does offer some protection, however, many people
argue that Yahoo itself will sell some information directly.

Restoration of Florida Everglades
Sponsor - USGS
Location - Reston, VA

Project Description:
Restoration efforts for the Florida Everglades are focused on
re-establishing and enhancing shallow surface-water flows where these
habitat-preserving conditions have been lost or diminished due to canal and
hydraulic control structure diversions. This project is focused on
quantifying canal and wetland flow exchanges through field data-collection
efforts, analyzing these data to investigate forcing mechanisms and to
evaluate empirical coefficients, and translating these findings into the
development of improved simulation models for use in determining the
effectiveness of restoration actions.

Objectives of the Internship:
This internship will provide an intern with the opportunity to work closely
with hydrologists and other research scientists in the full range of tasks
associated with the translation of field-collected data into an interpretive
tool to appraise water-management decisions and actions. The Associate will
work closely with the project chief and other scientists to collect the
needed data, to compile and verify the data for entry into data bases, to
analyze the data for translation into mathematical expressions, to prepare
the data for input to simulation models, and to develop graphical tools and
methods for visualization of simulation results.

Specific Tasks:
1. Assist in the preparation and execution of efforts to collect
intensive hydrualic and hydrologic data in the South Florida Everglades
using sophisticated instruments with laptop computers and field notebooks to
record the data and descriptive information.
2. Download data from the laptop media and enter descriptive
information from field notes into computer files, transfer these to
appropriate data bases and (or) computer program formats, and develop
graphical plots and statistical measures to verify the data integrity.
3. Transform data to appropriate formats for input to mathematical
models, execute numerical model simulations, and develop graphical plots of
numerical results for comparison with field-collected data.
4. Develop graphical plotting techniques and routines compatible for
use in simulation models and Geographical Information Systems for evaluating
and demonstrating flow conditions in interconnected canal and wetland
systems.

Work Experience Benefit(s) to Intern:
The Associate will be integrally involved with all aspects of the research
effort and thus will derive considerable first-hand experience and knowledge
of the scientific approach to real-world problem solving. Associate will be
introduced to other disciplinary activities affiliated with and contributing
to the work of the US Geological Survey in restoring the Florida Everglades
to pre-drainage conditions.

Qualifications:
Specific Qualifications Required:
MUST BE A US CITIZEN
MUST BE A RECENT GRADUATE OF ONE YEAR OR LESS

Requires a Master's Degree from a US college or university or US citizen
that studied abroad.
Able to work 40 hours per week.
Specific course work in the field of hydraulics, hydrology, and computer
science are highly desirable. An understanding of the basic concepts of
fluid mechanics, the components of the hydrologic cycle, and the use of
simulation modeling in problem solving are needed. Advanced computer skills
including the ability to write computer code (e.g. Fortran, Visual Basic,
etc) to use spreadsheet database programs (e.g. MS Excel, Oracle, etc) and
to employ statistical software (e.g. SAS) graphical plotting packages (e.g.
Matlab, Mathematics, etc) to interpret time-series data using PC and (or)
Unix systems are all highly desirable. Excellent verbal and written
communication skills are needed.

Prior knowledge and (or) working experience with mathematical simulation
models are a plus.

Terms:
Full-time; 1 year; $16.450 per hour; $34,216 per year; Start Date: ASAP;
Deadline to Apply: December 28, 2001

Consultant - Trout Unlimited - The Cumberland Valley Chapter of Trout
Unlimited, in cooperation with DEP, the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat
Commission and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, is requesting the
services of a qualified consultant to perform a stream assessment project on
Big Spring Creek, Newville, Cumberland County.

The stream assessment will start at the spring source and continue to its

supported a world-class brook trout fishery. Dams and agriculture have
adversely affected much of the stream. In recent years the stream has been
subject to discharges from a state-operated trout hatchery.

In biology class,I leand that man is going to live in Earth alone.
Because Man will get all energy to use for man from sun.
We have got almost energy from fuel made by various organism of Earth
ecosystem.
However,If man gets all energy from sun,man becames to be able to

I think that teacher spoke in superlatives.
But I have thought that using sun energy is to coexist with all
living things of Earth.
I want to reflect on the matter.
