A group for the discussion of the potentials and possibilities of femtotechnology (i.e. construction and computation at the femtometer scale). Femtotechnology presents a unique challenge to students of engineering, physics, and computer science because unlike it's enormous cousin (nanotech), the physics and principles governing the behavior of matter at the femtometer scale are still only broadly understood. The science underlying nanotech is comparatively well understood. As such, work at this scale can be seen largely as an engineering problem. In contrast, femtotech is still quite nebulous in its theoretical incarnation. While this reality might be quite frustrating to an engineer intent on tackling the pressing femtotech issues of the day, it will be an unending source of fascination to the physical scientist and mathematician determined to investigate the relevant quantum models.
The only requirement for posting to this group is a desire to learn or share about femtotechnology (and, yes, we'll allow picotechnological issues to slide under the wire too). Please no postings that are solely related to nanotech - while it is a fascinating discipline (in fact, the one that got me into physics and engineering), there are plenty of groups already that deal explicitly with virtually every aspect of that topic. Further, while professional education is preferred, it is understandable that few have the breadth and specialty of education required to assess femtotechnological issues today. So, reasonable intelligence and an inquisitive nature are acceptable. Please be both creative and realistic in your contributions and - above all - enjoy yourself!
