Subject: Cannot install Driver
ik8ozv
Send Email Send Email

Hi folks,
as i was out i did not use the Eumetsat System.
Today after a clear to my PC I am noticing problems to install the Skystar
driver.
Cannot remember where it is located.
If I browse to the folder:
E:\HD USB\Eumetsat\Licence_cd_v5_0_18-05-2006\Windows\Skystar_4_5_0
I get that there is no Drivers In that folder.
If I just launch the Start application from the same folder, it starts
installing but after A while when it starts to install the USB 2.0 drivers I
get the error which says to Install the driver before to install the
software.
Please anybody can refresh my mind and tell me where is located the driver?
Do I need to install another software before?
If yes which one?
Thanks in advance.

Unless the status page is slow to catch up I see Meteosat 8 is still
showing red - so perhaps August 2nd will not be a recommencement date.
Is it still is safe mode I wonder.

Thanks Alan and David for the animations.

Due to the rain fades I had some images missing (thanks to Ferdinand for the
missing images) and I had to correct some differences in gray-scale.

ftp://ftp.blueyonder.co.uk/incoming/MSG1-20100714-HRV-RS-c.mpg
Full HD animation 1920 wide 6 hours, 24 MB

ftp://ftp.blueyonder.co.uk/incoming/MSG1-20100714-IR-RS-c.mpg
Cloud top IR colored animation 1024 wide 24 hours, 34 MB

Best is to right click the link, then choose "Save as".

Both compressed to mpeg-1 with TMPGEnc using "high quality" settings.
This format is easily playable and compression does not loose too much
detail (especially noticeable when you use contrasting boundaries or red
fire detection)

I would love to try h.264 compression but this does require special CoDecs
to play. Not every operating system / set up will play these.

Greetings,
Arne van Belle

Welcome back, Joachim. I hope you enjoyed your time "down-under". Yes,
the guys in the USA changed the product format from externally compressed
HDF to internally compressed. Whilst the MODIS 1km resolution image data
is back, the fire and ocean colour are not yet restored. This is from the
notice of July 22:

23 July 2010 - Resumption of MODIS L1 Radiances and Geo-location data. Due
to a format change implemented by the data provider, the following MODIS

- Ocean Colour

The fire data on channel 12 started back a number of days ago, David.
I am certainly receiving them once again.

I am not getting the fire data on channel 12 so I can only assume that it is
on test with manufacturers. Eumetsat did say it would go on test first
although that had not been a requirement with the radiance and Geo-location
data.

Same here, Douglas. As Ian says, must be on manufacturer's test.

The fire files display well with the MODIS-L1 Viewer, as do the 1km
resolution images we are now getting:

Some serious problems with missed packets in the last 40 minutes or so which
unfortunately has forced me to shutdown and re-open.

I am using a RAMdisk for tmp and Tellique which quickly filled and stopped
all incoming data being processed.

Looks like the missed packet generator has been turned on:

Something has happened. Looks like the throughput (on DVB World boxes) is
higher than expected. Was anything due to be enabled today? I didn't
think so.

Bursts up to 10mb here David. Earlier packet loss at this location was
due to arrival of friends for coffee near the dish - the latter is
Europe-wide as you say.

Although I do not take this data myself, I have seen references on this
group to possible date anomalies with the data.

Apparently the data is comparing rainfall conditions over a 10 year average
using data from 2000/2009 which will explain the the "old" dates sometimes
seen.

The site pasted below should be of some interest.

Hi folks,
Last night i after a clear re installation,
When i went in the Setup of the ServerPC to add the new EuroBird 9,
After inserted all the parameters and cliccked on TUNE, i saw the
signal and quality bars being green and after a couple of seconds the
signal bar went fully red and the quality one is empty.
before i cleared the PC, ot worked perfectly.
Now i am noticing that if i put just the central wire of the coaxial
into the antenna plug of the skystar card, the quality bar becomes
yellow with about 12%, while if i plug it completly the quality
disappears again.
Anybody can suggest me what has happened?
What to check and how?
Any help with be really appreciated

Hello Enzo,

Make sure you entered the parameters for Eurobird 9 correctly like Horizontal,
11997 MHz, FEC 3/4 and 27500 Ks/s.

With only the central wire connected you receive local noise on every frequency
but will never get Eurobird.

Greetings,
Arne van Belle

Hello Arne,

thanks for the reply.

Yes the parameters are correct except for the Frequency.

I know that it should be 11977Mhz but you said 11997Mhz.

Maybe is just a confusion.

For the rest it is all set how you said.

As I said before it worked perfectly before.

The only thing I have noticed on the back of my PC that I saw that the
coaxial

went out of the connector and I am thinking that it could cause an shortcut
and blowed up the LNB,

but I do not know if there is a way to check the LNB before I buy a new one

Thanks

Hello Enzo,

Make sure you entered the parameters for Eurobird 9 correctly like
Horizontal, 11997 MHz, FEC 3/4 and 27500 Ks/s.

With only the central wire connected you receive local noise on every
frequency but will never get Eurobird.

Greetings,
Arne van Belle

Hello Enzo,

Correct about the frequency, it is 11977 !

If your coax slipped out of the connector you won't blow up your LNB.
But if there is a short between centre pin and shield for long periods you could
have damaged your receiver.

Make sure that the coax is correctly stripped and inserted in the connector. Be
careful that the braid wires or foil does not touch the center pin and create a
short.
To reset from a short circuit you may have to switch off your PC completely and
wait at least 5 minutes before powering up again (some receivers use a
resettable fuse).

If you have a voltmeter you can check your receiver, there should be 12 to 18
Volts DC on the center pin measured to ground.
Do not try to measure Amps on this center pin as this will also short the
receiver !

Good luck,
Arne van Belle

Hi Arne,

i cannot understand what’s going on.

I tried the LNB on my TV receiver and cannot receive none.

Also if I put a Satellite Finder between the LNB and the receiver, the

Satellite Finder does not measure None if I put the Knob at the

High sensitive the needle arrives till 2 or 3.

I measured the Voltage on the back of the Skystar card and have 18V DC.

So I think the LNB is blowed up.

Thanks

Just a word of warning that you need to register for the above product due to
start today.

I (incorrectly) assumed as it was being sent through EPS-10 that I would get it
automatically, but registration via the EO Portal is
necessary.

Ian.

.. and there is a beta version of the BUFR Viewer which should handle this
data, available for download here:

Thanks for the reminder David.

That is the first time I have used the EO Portal to add a service ( in fact I
added AIDA and Tamsat as well ) and I was very
impressed just how easy it was to use.

MODIS wind data due to re-start tomorrow on Channel 12.

Regards
Ian.
