This group is an offshoot of an International Seminar on Mind, Brain and Consciousness organised on 13-14-15 Jan 2010 at K.G. Joshi College of Arts and N.G. Bedekar College of Commerce, Thane, Maharashtra, India. It was sponsored by the Mens Sana Monographs, World Psychiatric Association [Philosophy and Humanities Section] and the Indian Council of Philosophical Research.
Philosophers, psychiatrists, psychologists, neurologists, neurosurgeons and neuroscientists from all over India and abroad met to deliberate on various topics related to mind, brain and consciousness. The major decision taken was to carry forward from there and discuss various issues related to this in an atmosphere of healthy give and take of ideas.
Understanding Indian and Western concepts of mind and consciousness, and also understanding the brain as it relates to them, is the main purpose of this group.
Philosophers of mind interested in the work of neuroscientists, and neuroscientists interested in what philosophers of mind have to say are specially welcome. Interdisciplinary approach and understanding is an important thrust of this group.
The group membership is moderated, and at present restricted to those who attended the Seminar and some select researchers/thinkers in the field. All discussions unrelated to the thrust of this group are discouraged. Members are strongly advised to follow netiquette, and to avoid 'screaming'[large, bold fonts], multiposting [repeating same post], cross-posting [posting to numerous groups in one message], off-topic posting, hijacking a discussion thread etc.
