Hi Gareld

I can email you the All6 library if you like. I'm not sure where it came
from. I downloaded it from a leak that David Potter (I think)posted some
time ago. I use it fairly often.

Sent the drawings to the printer 35 minutes before the client meeting (I am
sure no one else ever pushes the limit that close :-).

Followed Bills suggestion and drew polylines for the other buildings on the
Plot Plan. Was hoping to make them look like the main house but.....

Thanks to Deborah, Glenn, Jan and Wayson for the info on palm trees. I was
not able to find the ALL6 file in Michael Leone's web site
(http://www.3dbuilders.com/Library.html). Probably just in too big a hurry.
I put tall poles in to locate them on the property and had intended to color
them brown and put Jan's date palm on top but did not get to it. Maybe
before the next design review.

Thanks again to everyone.

Yes, but you may want to check the names of the libraries and change them
slightly
where they match existing libraries in chief.

I have finally mastered creating cad block to be placed in my own cad
block library but now have another problem/question. How do I take
those details (cad blocks) from my library and place them into the
layout. From layout I cannot open the library. I have minimized the
layout, open the library from PL1, chosen my cad block, and then
maximized the layout but could not click on the page and place the
block. I have tried to place the block in my attic level (off to the
side) and both copied and sent to layout. This works with the first
detail but when I do this with a second detail (block), the first
disappears on the layout. I guess I really am having a hard time
understanding how this whole cad block, cad detail, layout relationship
works. Any tidbits will help. By the way, you folks are too quick. I
finally saw a question the other night that I could answer and when I
went to type a response to it, it was already answered three times!

Try using the edit area command to copy the plan from one file to another
(after deleting the old walls).

Fred,

Create a CAD Detail and paste your created details into that and then you
can send it to layout.

Thanks for the response Geoff. But no it had nothing to do with Undo.
After adding another dimension string (to replace the lost one) at
some point I got the first one back. I had, however, assigned the
both the first and the replacement dimension strings to a "User
Layer" and the layer was on. Other dimensions assigned to that layer
were displayed while the one vanished.

I was begining to think that I had lost it (sanity). :o)

To all,

Including ART if you read these messages (and you should). I am sick of
working 16 hours a day because I am using a tool that is making me totally
unproductive. I sent a fix it list To ART and did not receive any response
until I sent another question and requested acknowledgment of my fix it
list, then I received a question about one item and notification that they
are working on a patch.

I have previously asked if there existed a list of known problems and bugs,
it seems to me that we all may be wasting heaps of time discussing and
rediscussing things that are allready, hopefully, being fixed. Why cant we
have a simple list to print out so we all know what is a bug and being fixed
so we can get on with other things instead of wasting a lot of time trying
and discussing different workarounds without success.

Has anyone read the list I am talking about? it was posted 2 days ago
message No 22675. Everyone seems to be talking about wishes for version 8
but I just want to work now.

I have spent the last two days trying to find a stupid simple hatch pattern
without success, I contacted ART Tech support and the answer was that Chief
cannot edit or create a pattern file. (how basic is this?) It seems you need
a program called Patternmaker which I have downloaded and have gone through
the tutorials and help files and generally futzed around, now I have some
patterns to make a nice dress but still cannot work out how to create the
hatch pattern I need, what a waste of time. And the dress doesnt really
match my tattoos anyway.

Sorry to clog up the site but I had to get this off my chest having recently
recovered from stage 4 cancer and dont want to be back in hospital with a
stress attack. Chief 6 helped me with the cancer because I took a laptop to
hospital and kept working to keep my brain active. Chief 7 is trying to
destroy me.

Sorry I had meant to keep this short.

PS. Pretty pictures are great and should be part of the program but none of
my clients want to pay extra for the time involved so I cannot afford the
luxury of spending too much extra time, anyone else have this problem?

Tom,
this is a P.S.
there where some *.pat files in the fault, but if you can not find them or you
have other reasons, let me know your email and I'll send the Acad.pat so you can
do your brick hatch. by the way, I set the scale at about 5, but try and see
what works for you.
Jan

Complaining is one thing but if someone offers help and/or advise and you do not
take this it's your own problem and not the software.
You never gave me your email, so I could send you a *.pat file that could have
done the trick and you never specified the spacing of the hatch you are after.
Now you have spend two days on a hatch pattern and still no luck. In the past
one user needed a hatch pattern and a kind Chief user made it for all to use.
This can only work when you are specific in your requirements. Be grateful that
you can use other hatch patterns as this was only added in V6.

I think I make this the last message to this group as some people call me a
cranky, complaining twit and others do not listen anyway.

I wouldn't have asked if I hadn't tried that already. Transparency seems to
work okay
with standard glass doors but not with the muntins doors. Am I missing something
or am I having
a problem with my computer? The gray glass doesn't even show the same color
with the muntin
glass. Now that I think of it I am also having a problem with a slab countertop
that is not taking
the material assigned. In reading many posts these last several weeks it seems
that there are a lot of
problems with the program. Not trying to "pass blame" just curious of there is
an issue that is causing
all of these problems. It seems a lot of people are having to reboot, shut
down, etc.etc. By the same
token those with Win 2K seem to be having no problems. ( I have win '98) I'd
settle for a simple answer
to my original question for now, does the glass in the muntins behave the same
as regular glass?

Dennis,

"does the glass in the muntins behave the same
as regular glass?"

The answer to your question is yes.

Make sure your cabinet is defined for glass doors under the 'cabinet
front' tab.

Under the materials tab select cab glass and make sure the transparency
setting is very close to totally transparent under the advanced
settings.

" I think I make this the last message to this group as some people call me
a cranky, complaining twit and others do not listen anyway" -
but I'd like to make the following observations:

1. There is no crime in getting cranky occasionally, as long as you don't
get destructive with it. If it is essentially constructive, it's positive
and worthwhile.

2. Most companies have a "Complaints" Department - either officially or
unofficially (Some call it "Service" Department - how's that for positive?).
Without complainers, they'd be out of work and nothing would get fixed.

3. People DO listen and read. But I guess most of us have our own stresses
and pressures that demand attention, so it is only the minority that
respond.

Any company (ART included) that ignores what some would call whingers,
rebels, troublemakers is destined to be average. Please keep up the flow of
real suggestions, ieas, problems, etc, so that they may be accepted,
rejected, adapted, etc, in a progressive manner. I for one, would seriously
miss your input (even if I don't understand everything you say - but that's
my "Twittiness" showing through).

Finally, I apologise for not responding to your previous posts. All I can do
is cite item #3 above.

Regards to all (particularly Bill and others in Seattle region)

Dennis,

I'm running w98 and glass muntin doors work okay for me, although chief does
not make the glass doors on the back see through..in any style.. .

I wouldn't have asked if I hadn't tried that already. Transparency seems to
   work okay
with standard glass doors but not with the muntins doors. Am I missing
something
   or am I having
a problem with my computer? The gray glass doesn't even show the same color
   with the muntin
glass. Now that I think of it I am also having a problem with a slab
countertop
   that is not taking
the material assigned. In reading many posts these last several weeks it
seems
that there are a lot of
problems with the program. Not trying to "pass blame" just curious of there
is
   an issue that is causing
all of these problems. It seems a lot of people are having to reboot, shut
   down, etc.etc. By the same
token those with Win 2K seem to be having no problems. ( I have win '98) I'd
   settle for a simple answer
to my original question for now, does the glass in the muntins behave the same
   as regular glass?

Tom,

are you asking about that others might have?

Tom,

I would guess that most of us wouldn't have the time to "wade"
through a list such as you have posted due to its length. That is
unfortunate and I am sorry you have had to experience feeling the
need to write it.
Many of your concerns will be addressed with the forthcomming
patch and later ones as necessary. It does seem that the Metric
version has proved to be more problematic than the Imperial version.
In Beta Testing and developement we did our best to spot "Legacy
Plan" issues and we did elimanate many during testing. It does seem
that several noisome ones were missed (ie. Meta-files, call-out line
weights and others as you know).
I do wish I had something more useful to offer than my apologys
and sympathys. My own problems have been close to zero but I do
understand that I and others must operate and deal with different
types of Chief-products than you do. I can easily see that one who
draws differently might experience things that I do not because of
different demands on the hardware and software involved.
In any case, you are "listened to" and you are important to us.

DJP

PS: Shorter posts are sure to get greater "Readings" and responces, I
am sure.

Well I'll be Damned. I was thinking that installing muntins WAS giving me glass
doors.
I now see you have to both select muntins AND glass doors.
Thank you Dean!!!

Dennis Gavin

What kills me is that I think I did this when muntins first came out but forgot.

The only thing that I can think of as to why ART doesn't post a bug
list publicly is that the completion might pick up on it and say this
that and the other thing about an object orientated program.
I know how you feel; I posted a message about Unselectable Stairs
and got one response. I sent in a bug report to Art and received an e-
mail back saying that it was plan specific, but when it happens on 3
different machines and different plans, then it can't be plan
specific can it? Maybe a suggestion to Art is to send out a mailing
of known bugs to registered users, and for them to keep hush hush
about it and maybe list some work around for said bugs so no hair is
lost in the process or red marks on the forehead.

Peter,
If I haven't had a particular problem, I rarely make a post that
I haven't had or seen a complained-about problem, unless the poster
asks for such data. For instance, I haven't experienced "Unselectable
Stairs" and thus made no post.
