It looks like either should do her fine.

Thanks.

Subject: Setting drawing accuracy (resolution) in Corel Draw 10
peteski7

Hello everybody,
I recently had to reinstall my Corel Draw 10. I need to have my drawings
accurate to 4 digits after decimal point (0.0001"). I had it set to that value
in my previous installation. But after complete reinstall Corel Draw is set to
the default accuracy which is three points after decimal point (0.001").

I looked everywhere in the tools, settings and customization and for the life of
my I can't find the place where I can change that! I know it can be done as I
did this in my old installation. I even tried searching the help files and did
Google searches - nothing!

Can anybody enlighten me as to how I can change that setting?

Thanks!

I received an answer on another Corel forum. In case someone looks for this
answer in the future, the "drawing precision" can be set in the Tools Menu -
Options - Workspace - Edit then choose Drawing Precision.

I have developed a problem opening CDR files by double clicking them from a
folder rather then opening them from within Corel Draw. This is the way that I
have always opened my files without any problems.

Two days ago I was trying to open a corrupted CDR file in Illustrator by
changing the file extension to eps. This didn't work but after trying to do this
any cdr file that I attempt to open launches Illustrator rather then Corel.

I am running Draw 11 in Windows XP.

Any thoughts would be most appreciated.

Try right-clicking the CDR file, select Open with... then select the Corel Draw
icon and check the box Always use the selected program... That should fix the
association.

Regarding the corrupt file, try changing the extension to zip and open it with a
program like Winzip or Winrar. Then you'll find a folder called content inside,
and in that foler a file riffData.cdr, which contains the actual drawing. You
cna exrtract that one and open it in CorelDraw. This goes for Draw X4 and X5 I
think, maybe X3 too.

Hey, thanks for the suggestion.  I'll have to wait until Tuesday, when I go
back to work to try it.  BTW, I am working in Draw 11.  Would the Winzip or
Winrar work for that version?

No, I am afraid it wouldn't. It's a rather new file format for CDR files. /Lars

Bill,
What happened was when you opened the file using Illustrator you inadvertently
changed the default program associated with that file type.. To change it back
to Corel go to your Control Panel and find Folder Options.. Click the Tab named
Files Types .. Scroll down to The CDR file type and change it back using the
tool provided..

I am sure it's in Draw 10. If you shift+select two objects, the shaping

Hi everyone,
Newbie here. I searched the archives of the messages to try to find the answer
to my question but to no avail. I'm new to CorelDraw and just purchased X5 and
am using it for designs to cut on my Roland GX-24 cutter. I have a plug-in for
the Roland that is supposed to send my artwork directly from CD X5 to the Roland
Cut Studio software but when I installed the plug-in into CorelDraw it isn't
working out. I loaded the appropriate files into the GMS folder but when I try
to open macros in the options there is nothing in the drop down list.

I went onto the Roland and Corel web sites and followed the instructions there
but getting nowhere fast. It has been suggested that I had the student version
of CD X5 but I don't think I do. The worst part is that I don't know how to find
out. I hate being a frustrated rookie but willing to learn.

So, how can I found out which type/version of CorelDraw do I have? I looked in
the about in the help file but can't seem to determine what I have. And if I
don't have the student version how in the world can I get my plug-in to work, or
at least show up. Grrrrr. LOL

Thanks,
Chris

Find your CorelDRW.exe file on your HDD...under programs....and hover your mouse
over the filename and it will give you a file description which will include the
version number...like for X6: 16.0.0.707

In CD go to HelpAbout CorelDraw

You will get a plethora of information and I would think that if you have a
Student version it would tell you there.

Thanks to everyone that emailed and responded. I have figured out that I do not
have the student version. I think my computer knows my frustration level and it
gets me to the point of wanting to toss it into the river when miraculously it
starts to cooperate so now my macros are working. I can almost hear the snickers
coming from my computer. Grrrrrr LOL I only wish I knew what I had done to make
it start cooperating and allowing the macros to work. Oh well.

Now to really get going with CorelDraw. I feel like a little kid in a room full

lot to learn but I can tell it will be worth it.

Thanks again,
Chris

Vertical text in the Graphics Suite is intended for Asian text, and not "Hotel"
text as we have in some western cultures.

In order to access the control, an Asian keyboard needs to be installed and then
the "Text Orientation" control will show in the text property pages.

Tammy,

There is likely a "proper" way to do this but here is a quick and dirty method
that works.

Set your font and scale (pt) as usual.

Before typing your text, open paragraph formatting change your horizontal
alignment setting to "center". Then type your text but press "Enter" after each
letter. This will stack the letters one directly above the next and keep them
perfectly centered.

To change the vertical spacing, highlight the text and adjust the the line
spacing %. As you increase or decrease the % you can observe the text moving to
the new setting.

I do most of my work in Illustrator so I am not all that familiar with the
nuances of CorelDRAW but I have used this method and it works very well.

If it is just a word or two, you could just type in each letter as a separate
artistic text (center justified). Then you just arrange them any way you like.
Just place the first and last letter where you want them, then you can select
them all and using the "arrange" menu you can line them up by their center,
right or left and also evenly distribute them by using "arrange" and
"distribute".

Thanks Tammy.

I found a tutorial on youtube.com that is probably not the same one you
found but it still explained it all to me. Now I know the proper way to do
it.

I have been using CorelDraw graphics suite since version 3.0 was new! My latest
copy was version 12, which was working fine under Windows Vista. Then I received
a new computer with Windows 7 64 bit and suddenly the Draw program no longer
works. Photo Paint works OK, but not the vector drawing portion. I tried
installing a virtual box, but tat didn't work either, tried installing and
running as administrator, still nothing. I do not have the budget to buy new
software. How can I get this program to work on my system?-M. Lillian

I do not want to start an software war however I do have a question. Why blame
the operating system because the hardware companies do not want to upgrade their
drivers? If I add an aftermarket doodad to my car I do not expect the car to
automatically change to accommodate it.

As far as I know places like Microsoft have Hardware Developer Kits that go out
to hardware manufactures well in advance of the release of a new operating
system so that the thousands of companies making hardware can upgrade their
products. The same is true for software companies with a thing called a Software
Developer Kit.
