There are clearly two colors here. Both are considered Purple.
The NDS do not consider either light or dark blends to be valid colours, we use the actual colours in the blends. This bloom is very simple to code in UK terms, it is Puirple blends

Quite right. I shall repeat on a cloudy day. Or cut one and take into
light shade.

Wayne,

I would class as a single as the ray florets tend to be flat more than with
the required involute form but when scoring, form would not receive a favorable
score.

Color, you indicate the colors are both of the RHS purple group. To classify
with that information rather than the picture - page 12, Guide to Judging
Dahlias; "If a variety has tints, tones, and/or shades of a hue that vary by
degree in the same color class, judges will classify it as if it were one
color."

There could be discussion about "vary by degree" and to classify by a picture
with bright light on the dahlia is not an acceptable classification.

Hello -

I see the box with Attachment, and the jpg #, but it does not open
when I click on it. It does not have a hyperlink. I'd love to see
your waterlily dahlia as I have never seen this type.

Thanks and enjoy the sunshine

I have never had to deal with a question like that, but I would prefer dark blend to indicate that the colour is not a solid one.

Don't know for sure either. But if both areas chart to purple, it
seems it would be classed purple. On many varieties that are
classed a solid color there are variations of that color from the
tip of the rays to the center.

Another interesting one for the group.

The petal on the left has non glare light and was charted as follows.
The dark zone is RHS 59A = Purple
the much lighter portion charts as between RHS 77B and 78B Also Purple.

There are clearly two colors here. Both are considered Purple.

It also has very dark foliage and a long stemmed growth habit that
makes it a consideration as a garden introduction. Not a show Single.
Very regular form, but the petals should lay flat for a Single, or
roll more to be an Orchid.

Sandia Melody Has a smooth petal and the petals cup as they should. They also do not drop back to the stem. In other words it is not too deep. It has a profile similar to Sandia Shomei.

It is unquestionably a great flower.
I was just curious about how it differs from flowers with similar form and color
from the point of view of trial garden people.

For instance when I saw Sandia Showboat I thought it looks
similar to Cameo. But after I looked more carefully I found
that it is little bit more yellowish in the center and has
different, wider petals. Besides, in my garden it grows stronger
then Cameo.

This is the kind of information I was asking about Sandia Melody.
By the way, when are you going to disseminate this cultivar?
