Welcome to the online forum for New England Forestry Foundation's volunteer Forest Stewards!
We are an ever-growing group of people, spread out across NEFF's community forests in 5 states. This forum is another way to help us stay better connected, and use our network as a resource. Use this space to check in with other Stewards, share ideas, ask for advice, swap stories and tips, and keep in touch.
Please feel free to post any info, photos, projects, materials, links, or questions for your fellow Forest Stewards. All topics are welcome!
Some ideas: conservation, forestry, stewarship issues, scout projects, invasive plants, ecology, community outreach, volunteering, recreation, trail maintenance, visitor outreach, education, wood products, nature, photography, tracking, trainings...
What Are Forest Stewards?
Forest Stewards adopt a NEFF Community Forest in their neighborhood and monitor the land throughout the year. In addition, Forest Stewards serve as the community ambassador on behalf of NEFF. Forest Stewards share the desire to make a real difference in their communities, a love of the outdoors, and an eagerness to learn. In return, NEFF offers Forest Stewards the opportunity to learn a variety of topics in ecology, including forest ecology, forest management, trail maintenance, exotic invasive plant control, and the use of compass & maps.
New England Forestry Foundation (NEFF) owns 130 community forest properties throughout New England that were donated for conservation, long-term forest management, public enjoyment and education. These community forests provide a model of sustainable management and inspiration to forest landowners. Our forests range in size from 10 to 2,000 acres and are located in suburbs, villages, rural areas and secluded countrysides. The accessible locations of many NEFF forests afford an ever-increasing number of visitors a chance to interact with nature in a communal backyard.
