Description

Romconlang is devoted to the hypothetical offspring of Latin, the language of one of the most highly civilised people that Europe has ever seen, and its sister languages. No-one can deny that the Romance languages are among the most beautiful in the world, and here we try to echo and add to that beauty with or own Romance languages.

Although the primary focus of this group is constructed languages, in particular those made for artistic reasons or just for pleasure, the discussion of Romance linguistics in general (including historical and theoretical linguistics) is welcome too. Discussion is also encouraged of "the Craft": conlang methods, software, websites, inspiration, history, etc. International Auxiliary Languages (Euroclones, Esperantoids) may be discussed in linguistic terms, but it should be clear that this is not the place for promoting them.

Romconlang is the successor of Romanceconlang. The reason we moved here, is that its owner had lost the possibility to manage the group, which made it an easy target for spammers. The archives of Romanceconlang can still be accessed at the group page, and are also available here.

This list is unmoderated, but flaming, spam and other abuses will not be tolerated. Please treat all other members with respect. It should perhaps be pointed out explicitly that this group deals with Romance languages, and not with the kind of romance that usually culminates in a mass-purchase of diapers.

... For vocabulary, I have not done a count, but skimming the glossary it looks like a majority of words are from a Romance/LF base. I have enjoyed, however,

Re: What would be your suggestions for a pure French word meaning 'f
You are right, it does look French. Today I did compare it with the word 'voyage', which has a glide too and there is a 'v' in 'sauvage'. Old consonants seem

Re: [romconlang] Re: What would be your suggestions for a pure Frenc
... I suppose you can either go back in the language's history and determine that whatever leads to hiatus (in this case, loss of medial consonants) will not
