Is there any reason why you can't upgrade to Firefox or Google Chrome
instead? They are better browsers in almost any imaginable objective way.

What I got from it was that they want a reverse dns, that is that their Ip
will resolve to a domain. What you are talking about is resolving a domain
to an ip which is forward dns. I think it is resolved now anyway.

Tried disabling my add ons and my startup menu but it still happens. This

I don't believe you can install or uninstall programs while any other software
is running...Registry Suicide perhaps...

Remember IE=Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer=a file manager...

Sometimes programs have preferences like IE or Chrome or Firefox, so I just
close the one I don't want. With Avaquest's SystemSuite's Firewall you can set
it to ask if you want a program to run...Perhaps other third party firewall
programs have this ability, but unsure if Windows' Firewall does?

I think having extra browsers installed is a great insurance policy, IMHO.

       Hey Gurus,

Having a problem with IE 9 even though I only have it for Microsoft updates.

I am running Win. 7 HP with Google Chrome set as my default browser.

On a pretty regular basis I get script notifications to close the scripting
process to speed up my browsing. I click yes to disable scripting and pretty
much I minimize my google browser and there is IE9 running, sitting there
waiting for something. It opens itself for some unknown reason. Also, if I am
running an install, or an uninstall, the program I am installing/uninstalling
defaults to windows explorer and normally, IE 9 will crash at least once during
the process - often 2 or 3 times.

I "assume" that if I delete, or try to delete IE 9, I will no longer get my
microsoft automatic updates. What do you guys think? I would also love to hear
your collective thoughts on the best browser between google chrome and Firefox.

Regards to all,

hagie

deborahinwi, yes you can. I bought a very simple inexpensive device from Amazon
that except all sizes of interior drives and that includes interior floppy and
CD drives. It is not a case, but a simple multi-plug-in adapter using USB. I
used it for my old PAT/IDE hard drive from my old XP. I'm sure it will do the
job for you.

Following is my Amazon order:
1/10/2012: Amazon $15. Vantec CB-ISATAU2 SATA/IDE to USB 2.0 Adapter Supports
2.5-Inch, 3.5-Inch, 5.25-Inch HD Drives.

Hi Roger X19 - Apologize for the delay. I kind of gave up getting a reply.
That's right the Thinkpad was refurbished with a Lenovo screen. According to
sources IBM was bought out by Lenovo. Something like that, and the thinkpad was
refurbished by Lenovo and later sold as refurbished units.

Thank you for the suggestions. At the present time I'm using an LCD external
monitor and that seems to have taken care of the problem.

You got that exactly. The refurbished Unit wasn't cheap when I purchased it
about a year and a half ago. AS you say so far it has been the Viable cost
effective way to go. Thanks for taking the time to reply. PS

Deborah--
There are lots of possibilities, many of which are what you want, but we
need to know more. More important than the Brand (Dell) is the age and
details of the operating system. I have a pair of old XP machines that I
recovered from problems, that I keep for checking XP problems. They have IDE
drives, while most newer machines use SATA.
The permutations are great, so we need more info.

I think you're looking for the 'Change your view' button at the top right
hand corner in Windows Explorer. You'll see all the options there. You can
change from Tiles, List or Details to large or medium icons.

or

By the way, there's another handy little button to the right of that called
the Preview Pane. If you select this, you'll get an immediate preview of a
document for instance on the right side of your screen by clicking once on
the document instead of having to open it in Microsoft Word.

Acronis True Image Home (free) includes a feature called Try and Decide.
You could put your computer in that mode, and any changes made by "the kid",
including downloads, could be rolled back the next time you use the

I had the same problem, drove me batty. Here's how I fixed it.

Go to Control Panel, click folder options, click View (middle tab), in the
Advanced Settings box unmark always show icons, never thumbnails, click apply,
then OK and you can now see all your photos and PDFs as thumbnails in your
folders. I also set my pictures library to show Large Icons as I couldn't focus
on the smaller options. To do that look at the top right of the blue bar in
your pictures library for the tiny black triangle pointing down, click on the
triangle and then on Large Icons. You have more display layout options by
clicking on that upside down triangle than you do by clicking on the tiny
picture to the left of it.

Windows set it up this way as they say it takes longer to display the
thumbnails. To me it makes more sense to always be able to see the thumbnails.

How do I clean this out once and for all? Each scan finds four or five and
cleans them out. Next scan there they are again.
I did a search for it and came up empty. Is it one of those monitoring
things which tells something where you have been on the internet?

Hi Bill,

sounds like you made images of your computers, then restored the images to the
SAME computer they were made from, is that right?

I think SB was asking if you could use an image made with one computer on a
different computer.

According to Acronis, you can install it and boot into Windows. My question is
would you be able to activate it.

You can, of course, activate Windows on the same computer, but I don't know how
many times Microsoft would let you activated the same product key on different
computers. Not often, I would imagine.

I have heard that you can re-use a product key to activate Windows on a
different computer after a certain time (say 180 days) but have never tested
that.

Sue,

Good tip, but people who have the default Category view in Control Panel won't
see "Folder Options".

They need to click Appearance and Personalization first, then they will see it.

then OK and you can now see all your photos and PDFs as thumbnails in your

How do I clean this out once and for all? Each scan finds four or five and
cleans them out. Next scan there they are again.
I did a search for it and came up empty. Is it one of those monitoring things
which tells something where you have been on the internet?

I did not scan in safe mode.
I just looked at superantispyware and it says this is uncleared crumbs of
programs. I defragged and that should have gotten it.
I will see the next time I scan.
Thanks everyone.

Defragging does not delete anything from your disc.
