I'm not at all sure that you can use iMovie on the 1st gen iPad. I know
some folks tried it and it did not work out well for them but there may be
a work around. lt did not work for me but I did not pursue it.

As for the direct transfers, there is an app called Tonido that lets you do
wireless transfers between different platforms as well as mobile devices.
You might want to give it a try. I just downloaded it and it works
between my Macbook Pro and my Android.

Good luck. I hope someone on the list will offer the benefit of more
experience.

Hmm - just checked something ... The iPhone iMovie has instructions for
transferring between devices using iTunes. You might check that out...

Hiya,

A cheapish app called PhotoSync says it will do this, but I haven't tested it
yet.

hi all, in case some of you are interested in helping out, Engage Media
are crowdfunding "Videomakers for Change" on pozible (the Australian
version of kickstarter). they are raising funds to send more people to a
video journalism camp. they're almost there - need about $300 more, with
~12 hours to go

I know one of the people who works at Engage Media - they do a great job
documenting social issues and community life in Asia. I'm pretty sure
they've been discussed on the vb-list in the past. I love how the
crowdfunding can help great projects - to think, it started (happened) in
one way with have-money-will-vlog all those years ago.

http://www.engagemedia.org/taxonomy/topic has a list of videos they've done
in the past

any support would be appreciated!

I can confirm that Engage Media is a smart group helping teach folks
in that part of the world how to make videos. They're the first place
I learned about the growing punk movement in Indonesia. Just sent a
couple bucks their way.

thanks all. they made their target. hurray :)

yeah I only heard about the punks in Asia via EM too. they're doing great
work in their communities.
I also only heard about Sarawak and the plight the local people have -
losing their traditional lives & livelihoods due to new developments.
Andrew Garton's work on these videos was amazing - he spent a lot of time
with them.

Can anyone recommend companies that currently offer dynamic ad insertion for
audio podcasts? I'm having a hard time finding information online. More
specifically, I'm looking for a company where I can upload episodes and store
them, enter the times when the commercials should begin and have complete
control over how many commercials are inserted and where. I don't need a company
that find sponsors, we can find the sponsors on our own. I just need someone to
handle the process of storing the shows and ensuring our commercials hit at the
appropriate times. And they should also provide good statistics on
downloads/demographics and have good customer service. Seems like that's hard to
come by these days...

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

So if I understand this correctly ....
You want to sell commercial time on your podcast, but these commercials will
run on *all* your podcasts for x amount of time. After that time they will
no longer be played on your podcasts.

This seems to be different from the way most folks do it. They sell
commercials. They insert those commercials onto their podcast episode by
episode. And those commercials STAY on those episodes forever (as long as
they can be downloaded at least)

Correct. We have a library of more than 250 episodes, most of it is evergreen
content. Our statistics show listeners are continually downloading all of our
episodes, not just the most current ones. I'm familiar with the advertising
model you mentioned, however it's generally a much more compelling sell for us
to tell advertisers their commercials will be automatically inserted into all
250 episodes, as opposed to the most recent ones. However, they would still have
the option of inserting their commercials in specific episodes, if that's what
they prefer. My experience has been the larger advertisers don't want old ads
running on older shows, since their advertising message could become outdated.

Hi everyone -

I'm delurking after a long while to see if anyone has any ideas about a
problem I'm working on with the SF Gay Men's Chorus (SFGMC).

The chorus is headed to Skywalker Sound to record an "It Gets Better"
project song written expressly for us by Broadway composer Steven Schwartz.
A team of 4 Apple videographers and editors are filming it, a la "We Are
The World" and will release the video on the same night the song is
premiered on March 20 in concert.

The Director of Video at Apple, who is also a singing member of the chorus,
is also relaunching the SFGMC website, and want to build up our e-mail
list. He is strongly considering putting the new video, which should get
good coverage on the SFGMC site only and wants people who provide e-mail
addresses to our list to be able to see the video for the first two weeks.
Our mailing list is in need of a boost, but I think this is an awful, awful
idea to require people to provide data to see content. Not being able to
embed will also hamper the viral-ness of the video, as bloggers and other
sites won't share it.

So the question is: What's the alternative. He doesn't want to put any
links over the video, and he is open to a solution that at least drives
some traffic to the new SFGMC site and gets people to opt in to our
list. Any ideas? I will fully credit you if you come up with an idea I
suggest.

Cheers,

Jeffrey from Paris, now in SF

Please forward to the Apple ViP, "Do the right thing for the intended purpose. I
and many of my friends don't fork up email addresses to see content. If the
point of the video is to communicate it gets better then how is the target
audience and those that love them going to see it behind an e-mail gate?

It sends the unintended messaged that SFGM is more important than the stated
goal and/or this is link/e-mail bait. Now if that is true that teens in pain is
less important than the chorus, my bad and keep on steppin' er singing.

Either provide a video on Vimeo, Blip.tv or YouTube or at the least allow
visitors to come to your site and have a small solicitation for an events
calendar link under the video.

You don't have to have comments on the other distribution sites. In the case of
YouTube, completely understandable.

Dude, make the video compelling enough for me to want to give my my info."

I believe you can make a splash page for the entire domain that would request
people submit their e-mails. But I agree with the others who feel they should be
able to opt out of providing their email address and still watch the bid.

Best,

Josh

How Apple of them to restrict the flow of information and make your social issue
a proprietary thing that will insure that the video only plays to people who are
already down with your cause.

If you want impact release it freely everywhere with links pointing to "behind
the scenes" or bonus footage and collect the email addresses for that content.

So, you should first decide what the goal of this video is.
If it is to bring an issue to "the masses" ... restricting it to Your Site with
a sign up prerequisite will be a complete failure unless you include scantily
clad teenage bikini girls dropping Mentos into coke bottles aimed at cute
kittens intercut with babies laughing. etc etc.

If the goal is to only reach those who are openly gay....

Ok, I still don't like the proprietaryness of it but this tactic could work.

IF those signing up understand that the video release "to the world" is in 2
weeks and that it's kind of a "Coming Out" party that they can all participate
in by spreading the video as widely as possible at that time. It could create
buzz/hype... also something Apple is good at. LOL

So unfortunately I see both sides.

DE-LURKING TO SEE IF Y'ALL CAN HELP SOLVE A PROBLEM - TRUMP APPLE'S

Hi everyone -

I'm delurking after a long while to see if anyone has any ideas about
a
problem I'm working on with the SF Gay Men's Chorus (SFGMC).

The chorus is headed to Skywalker Sound to record an "It Gets Better"
project song written expressly for us by Broadway composer Steven
Schwartz.
A team of 4 Apple videographers and editors are filming it, a la "We
Are
The World" and will release the video on the same night the song is
premiered on March 20 in concert.

The Director of Video at Apple, who is also a singing member of the
chorus,
is also relaunching the SFGMC website, and want to build up our
e-mail
list. He is strongly considering putting the new video, which should
get
good coverage on the SFGMC site only and wants people who provide
e-mail
addresses to our list to be able to see the video for the first two
weeks.
Our mailing list is in need of a boost, but I think this is an awful,
awful
idea to require people to provide data to see content. Not being able
to
embed will also hamper the viral-ness of the video, as bloggers and
other
sites won't share it.

So the question is: What's the alternative. He doesn't want to put
any
links over the video, and he is open to a solution that at least
drives
some traffic to the new SFGMC site and gets people to opt in to our
list. Any ideas? I will fully credit you if you come up with an idea
I
suggest.

Cheers,

Jeffrey from Paris, now in SF

I would suggest password protecting on Vimeo, promote "see preview" on site
with "get password" input that includes an opt-out radio button "also sign
up for announcements"

It's pretty simple, I guess.

If the only real value/ROI of the video is to gather emails for the mailing
list, then that's what you do.

If there are other benefits to the organisation from being seen by the
wider public who are not prepared to pay for access with their email
address, then you make it optional. You'll get fewer email addresses but
you balance that loss against the benefit of wider exposure.

Depends on what is more valuable to you and the people spending their time,
money and effort making the video. Exposure and awareness to a largely
anonymous audience, or a smaller audience of usable contacts?

I can see both points of view, but I agree with yours.

Hi all,
Haven't posted for about 5 or 6 years... been busy :) I didn't have a
business back then so I had more time. Anyways... I am working on a project
and we are looking for Asian based video bloggers who may want to cover the
event. Can anyone recommend ones I should follow or check out? This is a
corporate gig to be held in Sydney. Any bloggers covering tech, business,
social or education would be good.
Hope you are all well : )
